Managing Member

Michael S. Maistelman is the managing member and founder of Maistelman & Associates, LLC, a Milwaukee-based law firm focusing on government relations along with land use and real estate, municipal law, business law and civil litigation. Though Maistelman is respected for his work in all his practice areas, he has distinguished himself in the area of election law and campaign finance. He has represented and/or advised some of Wisconsin’s most prominent political figures, including, former Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle, former U.S. Senator Russell Feingold, Congresswoman Gwen Moore, Congressman Ron Kind, former Congressman Steve Kagen, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Evers, Milwaukee County Sheriff David A. Clarke, Jr., Outagamie County Executive Thomas Nelson, various Milwaukee County Board Members and City of Milwaukee Aldermen. Maistelman earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics from Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY and a Juris Doctor from the University of New Hampshire, Concord, NH.

Elizabeth D. Shimek earned her Bachelor of Arts magna cum laude from Lawrence University, where she majored in Islamic Studies and minored in International Studies. In 2011, she traveled to the United Arab Emirates to attend the American University in Dubai as a William Jefferson Clinton Scholar, completing her Certificate in Middle Eastern Studies. After receiving her BA, Elizabeth attended the University of Wisconsin Law School, earning her Juris Doctorate and a Certificate in Family Law. Elizabeth has a diverse legal background, enabling her to the tackle all of your difficult legal questions, from international investment regulations to federal preemption to Medicaid estate recovery. In her spare time, Elizabeth volunteers with Wisconsin nonprofits, including Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin and NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin.

Confidence that comes from experience: Elizabeth has worked with top law firms, courts, and nonprofits around the world. During law school, Elizabeth interned at YKVN Lawyers, one of Southeast Asia’s top international firms; End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin; and in the chambers of the Honorable Ann Walsh Bradley of the Wisconsin Supreme Court. She served as a Student Attorney with the University of Wisconsin Law School’s Domestic Abuse Clinic, guiding low income clients through the restraining order process, and as a Managing Articles Editor with the Wisconsin Journal of Law, Gender and Society. After graduating from law school, Elizabeth worked in personal injury litigation at Hupy & Abraham, S.C., before accepting her current position at Maistelman & Associates.
